Joint Forward Plan

Published on 30 June 2023, the first of our NHS Joint Forward Plans set out a delivery plan that explains how we will arrange and/or provide NHS services to meet our population's physical and mental health needs, particularly with respect to the ambitions of the Integrated Care Strategy.

This plan focuses on actions that will be delivered by the NHS in BOB (ICB, NHS Trusts, primary care, etc). As we develop as a system it is expected that future joint forward plans may reflect more fully our wider partnership activities.

In developing our Joint Forward Plan, we have identified a small number of key challenges that, if addressed, we believe will have the greatest impact on ensuring our services more effectively meet the needs of people in BOB. Meeting these challenges will require long term change, working in new ways - with greater collaboration across system partners and with our communities - and will require a fundamental change in focus, from a system based on treating illness to one that prioritises prevention and keeping people healthy in their communities.

You can read the Joint Forward Plan in full here, or read a summary here.

What is a Joint Forward Plan?

The Joint Forward Plan outlines how the ICB, working with our partners across health and care, will deliver health and care services to people living in BOB over the next five years. The plan is developed by us, the ICB, and our NHS provider Trusts across BOB, working closely with local authorities, and voluntary and community organisations. It will be updated annually at the beginning of each financial year and will be reviewed regularly to monitor progress.

Public engagement was undertaken earlier this year to support the development of the Joint Forward Plan; the engagement report summarising public feedback is available.

You can find out more about the Joint Forward Plan from our health and care partners in the video below.

Finally, a message from Steve McManus, BOB ICB chief executive, on our ambitions for the Joint Forward Plan.
